The American Film Institute has announced their 2011 official selection for the AFI Awards and some of our favorite movies and TV shows made the list.

The AFI Awards, records the year’s most outstanding achievements in film, television and other forms of the moving image arts. The 2011 Movies of the Year honorees were Shailene Woodley’s The Descendants, Chloe Moretz’s Hugo, and Emma Stone’s The Help.

Modern Family was also announced as a honoree for TV program of the Year, while the Harry Potter series is set to receive a special award because the film was not generated in America, but in Britain.

A private luncheon will be held on January 10 at the Four Season, where the awards will be passed out. To see the full list of honorees click here.
