You’ve Got That One Thing

Beautifulballad was one of the lucky thousands of fans to see One Direction in concert this past weekend in New York City and let me say it was a blast.

After seeing the boys open for Big Time Rush you would not have guessed this was their first time headlining their own tour in the United States. All five of the boys hit the stage ready to give their fans a great show and they succeeded.

The boys played 13 of their own songs including crowd favorites “One Thing” and “What Makes You Beautiful” as well as a cover of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and a melody of their own favorite songs. All of the boys, I thought, sounded great. Zayn Malik’s runs were on point and they finally figured out a key that made Niall Horan’s voice sound better than usual!

My favorite performances of the night went to “One Thing” (their next US single) because the reaction on their faces to the crowd knowing all the words was priceless and “I Want” because they looked great in their suits and all sounded amazing!

The crowd was on their feet the entire time making for a great show. From the moment these boys stepped out on stage the crowd was either singing along or, if they did not know the words, they were screaming.

When the boys hit the stage for the first time you could barely hear them singing “Na, Na, Na” with how loud the crowd was. Thank heavens they wear ear buds because their ears would still be ringing like mine are if they weren’t!

Niall  and Liam Payne, personally for me, stole the show. Both of them were constantly interacting with the audience physically and verbally. They were always trying to keep the audience engaged and having a good time.

Harry Styles was also on point. He was not as verbal as Liam and Niall, but he was physically giving the audience a great show. He also took the time to  hit the boxes lining the side of the stage to interact with the fans.

My one wish was that they had done some new songs. The tour is the exact same tour they did on the United Kingdom and Australia/New Zealand tours and can be found on their new DVD, Up All Night: The Live Tour. For fans who will be buying the DVD and then seeing them later on this summer the DVD is kind of spoiler for them.

All in all I thought it was a great show and to those people who will be seeing them later in the summer, you are in for a treat! It was a fantastic show and I cannot wait to see what they bring for their arena tour in 2013!
