The City Is Ours
Last night, August 19, BeautifulBallad had the opportunity to attend the Big Time Rush concert. The boys are currently traveling the country with opening acts Cody Simpson and Rachel Crow on their Big Time Summer tour.
The show kicked off with X Factor contestant Rachel Crow. Rachel performed a 6 song set and did a pretty good job warming the crowd up. Last night’s show was actually her last of the tour so she was joined on stage by Kendall Schmidt for her performance of “Valerie” and was later joined by Carlos Pena, Logan Henderson, and Kendall for “Rock With You”.
At 14 there is no doubt the girl has a fantastic voice, but she still has a lot of growing to do on stage. For her first tour she had great chemistry with the audience, but I would have liked to see her use the stage a little more and to not force her voice to hit a certain note or to make it sound too fancy.
Australian born singer Cody Simpson hit the stage next and performed an 8 song set. Cody’s set was all about grabbing the attention of every girl in the crowd. His dance moves and crowd interaction were well received by the screaming girls in the audience.
My favorite parts of his set were when it was just him and his guitar. Those parts really allowed the audience to get a sense of Cody’s talent in not only singing, but playing the guitar as well. I would suggest anyone going to see Cody in concert to try to see him in a smaller setting where it is just him and his guitar. That is where the boy really shines.
When the sun finally set Big Time Rush hit the stage. Big Time Rush performed a whopping 18 song set and at no point was the crowd ever not on their feet. From the moment they hit the stage singing “Elevate” to their last song “Big Time Rush” the crowd of screaming fans was singing and dancing to every song.
I had the chance to see the boys when the first toured last March and can I say I saw a different quartet of boys last night. James Maslow, Carlos, Logan, and Kendall all seemed more confident on stage and really looked to be having a great time, as did the crowd.
They took the time to really interact with their fans, even coming into the audience and singing to those who could not be right near the stage. They had trampolines and pyrotechnincs that helped hype their up-tempo songs and acoustic sets that melted the hearts in the audience.
My only issue performance was it felt very scripted. I know they are a boy band that has choreographed numbers but the songs that didn’t have choreographed moves like “Worldwide” were some of my favorite parts of the night.
Overall the all three acts did a great job! If you have tickets to see Big Time Rush on their tour you are in for a good night of music. Parents let me warn you, make sure to bring earplugs because your ears will most likely be ringing for next couple of days!
