Demi Lovato opened up to PEOPLE about her upcoming role as a judge on the X Factor. Demi talked to them about how she and Britney Spears are no longer scared to tell a contestant no, her relationship with Britney, and so much more.

On no longer being sacred of saying no: “We got more comfortable in telling our opinions without being afraid of the booing. When Britney and I first started on this show, we were looking at each other like, ‘What do we do? We’re so nervous!’ ”

On her relationship with Britney: “I don’t have any rivalry with [Britney], friendly or not,” added Lovato. “I have a rivalry with Simon for sure. And you know what? It’s not so friendly.”

Britney even told PEOPLE she thinks Demi is a tougher judge then her. The new season starts tonight, September 12, on FOX!
