Since I’ve Come On Home

Troian Bellisario and Teen Vogue met up at the Sundance Film Festival last month and had a movie date. During the date, Teen Vogue talked to Troian about her Sundance film, C.O.G, Pretty Little Liars, and so much more.

On her Sundance film C.O.G.: “My character is Jennifer. Jonathan Groff plays David Sedaris’s character — he decides it’s time to make a change in his life and he’s gonna go back to the fields. He has this idea — actually I have it, as his college roommate, his best friend — and I’m reading a Steinbeck novel Grapes of Wrath, and I have the idea that we should just go be like simple people. We should just go work in a field and both be honorable and get home at night and go to sleep in our beds and we’ll feel good, we’ll earn our money.

And he’s like, ‘That’s a great idea. Let’s go out and pick apples all summer.’ And I say, ‘Awesome. You go out. I’m going to meet you there.’ And so he’s out there for a while picking apples and I show up and decide that I’m not going to do the original plan. So we have a friend breakup, and he has to go the rest of the summer with this commitment that he’s decided for himself. It sets him on this path to find out what he really wants in life. It’s a really special movie.”

On looking different than her Pretty Little Liars character Spencer: “On my Instagram, my boyfriend will take pictures of me or someone else will take a picture of me and they’re like, ‘What is wrong with her? She looks sick.’ And I’m like, ‘No I just don’t have two hours of hair and makeup, you guys.’ It’s so funny.

But it’s so nice to see girls and meet them in real life. You see sometimes they’ll have that reaction where they’ll be looking at me and they’re like, ‘Wait! That is you!’ Because they’re used to seeing Spencer, who looks a certain way. But this season will be fun because Spencer’s not as put-together as she always is. I’m excited for that.”
