Lionsgate is currently in the midst of purchasing the distribution rights to Kristen Stewart’s new film, American Ultra. Also starring Jesse Eisenber,g the company is planning to shell out $7 million for the rights.

Buzz on this film has been stirring since the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, but no firm deal had been made. Production on the film is set to begin in 5 weeks in New Orleans, thus Lionsgate wants to secure this deal before it gets underway.

In the movie Eisenberg plays a stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend (Stewart) is upended when his past catches up with him, putting him the crosshairs of a government operation bent on wiping him out.

If Lionsgate secures the rights, the film will most likely be released at the end of this year or next year.
