It’s Getting Late
It was a rainy night in Washington, D.C. last night, August 11, but that did not stop thousands of screaming fans from packing National’s Park for One Direction’s Where We Are tour. The show kicked off with 5 Seconds of Summer for a set that included their recent hits, “Amnesia” and “Don’t Stop”.
I thought that each member did well interacting with the crowd even though they usually had to stay behind a mic stand and an instrument. Calum Hood had to deal with some minor falls during the show, due to the rain, but he always hopped right back up and kept playing.
One Direction took the stage just before 9pm and even though the crowd was soaked and the stage was wet, the group still put on one great show. Unlike their past tours, this one included several pyrotechnics, creative backdrops and more room for them to move about. Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles made the best use of the stage as the group performed hits from their past three studio albums.
Harry, Liam and Niall were constantly moving and interacting with the crowd during the show. They were always doing something and made it quite obvious they enjoyed being up there performing. Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were fairly non-existent. Both spoke a tiny bit in between songs but other than that they were forgetful. I have seen One Direction multiple times now and each time I hope Zayn and Louis step it up, but they never do. It’s a shame because they are just as talented as the others but they let themselves get overshadowed by Harry, Liam and Niall.
For those seeing the boys on their Where We Are Tour you will not be disappointed. One Direction makes every show a little different than the last (Liam and Niall sang an impromptu version of Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” last night- loved it!) and were very entertaining throughout. I just hope it doesn’t rain for your show, or maybe it should because singing and dancing in the rain with the guys was a definite Summer highlight.
