Time To Grow Up
Nick Jonas sat down with Hunger TV to talk about his upcoming self-titled album. Nick is currently doing promotions for the album, which is slated to be released on November 11.
On ending the Jonas Brothers: “In a lot of ways closing The Jonas Brothers came in waves. It was a real necessity to close that chapter in order to have a healthy relationship as a family. Things had become strained in a way. We made the decision to be a family first and to prioritise that.
That meant closing the group but we knew it would be OK because we knew we would be strong as a family. After that came the excitement of wanting to do my own thing not just with music but with acting as well. There was a real moment of everything hitting at once – I had this music in my heart that I wanted to write and I was just really fortunate to be able to do it.”
On Kingdom: “In Kingdom I play a fighter. It’s really gritty family drama set against the backdrop of Mixed Martial Arts. It’s incredibly intense and authentic to this [The Mixed Martial Arts] world that I have eventually come to know quite well.
As far as the physicality of the shows goes we did extensive fight training and I did a bunch of strength training on top of that just to take on a new physique. After the show was done I realised I had quite enjoyed the healthy lifestyle and the look, so I kept up with it. I really had to fight for this role. Coming from where I came from I think hurt me in a lot of ways, I worked really hard and just tried to show them that I can do it. I’m really glad they hired me.”
On what he has learned over the past year: “I think the biggest thing has been to calm down and chill out. In the past, years ago, when we were on that roller-coaster, I realised I was worried a bit too much and I don’t know if I took the time to enjoy the really great moments as much as I could. Right now this feels good, I’m really enjoying it.”
