Stood Out Among The Rest

2014 was quite the year for movies, from superhero sequels to book to film adaptations, there was a movie for everyone this past year. For us there were five movies that we loved from 2014.

The first movie to make our list was The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 1. This movie did a great job bringing to life the weakest book in the trilogy. Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson returned for the third installment in the series and left fans primed and ready for the final film.

Based on the book by John Greene The Fault in Our Stars definitely earned a spot on our list. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort played two teenagers who fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group. Their performances were fantastic and if you have not seen the movie I suggest you do. Just have some tissues by your side.

The romantic comedy What If has also made our list. Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan, the pair battles the age-old question: can men and women just be friends? The chemistry between Daniel and Zoe was great and it reminded me of the romantic comedies from the 90s, which are some of my favorite movies to date.

Dylan O’Brien’s The Maze Runner comes next on our list. This was another book to movie adaptation that left me wanting more. This is Dylan’s first lead movie role and now it is his first lead franchise movie role. The second movie in the series, The Scorch Trials will be released next September and I for one cannot wait to see it.

Lastly, Captain America: The Winter Solider made our list. The follow up to the 2011 box office hit, Captain America, Chris Evans returns to stop Hydra from taking over the world in the superhero movie. I thought this movie did a fantastic job bringing life to Captain America and continuing the story in the Marvel universe.
