BeautifulBallad Reviews Disney’s Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland is a place for dreamers, thinkers, and creators to shape the future and that’s exactly what the film inspires. Starring George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, and Raffey Cassidy, Tomorrowland can’t help but spur the viewer to think outside the box.
The film follows Clooney’s character Frank as he discovers the alternate universe of Tomorrowland, courtesy of his new friend and recruiter, Athena (Cassidy). After spending several years there creating and learning, Frank builds something which may or may not cause the end of Earth. Because of his creation Frank is banned, forever, from Tomorrowland.
Several years later, Athena stumbles upon and recruits Casey (Robertson), a teenager obsessed with space and fixing things. Together they team up to find Frank who Athena believes can fix what he originally created- with Casey’s help. The odd trio takes on robots set to destroy, iconic monuments that aren’t as they appear and more in their quest to try and save the world.
This live-action film, based loosely on Walt Disney’s utopian dreams and the “Tomorrowland” portion of several Disney theme parks, is a fast-paced delight. Clooney’s crotchety, glass half-empty Frank is a nice counterpart to Robertson’s shoot for the stars Casey. The real gem, however, is newcomer Raffey Cassidy. She is excellent as the robot recruiter and invigorates every scene she is in. Expect big things from her in the future.
Tomorrowland is an ambitious project for Disney but a charming one. For Disney fans, this is a must see and families will likely enjoy it, as well.
