BeautifuBallad Reviews Jurassic World

Jurassic World is the fourth film created in the Jurassic Park franchise and much like the two films before it, it doesn’t live up to the original. Directed by Colin Trevorrow and starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World succeeds in entertaining the dinosaur in all of us, but fails to deliver a concrete storyline.

In the film, the Isla Nublar is the park Jurassic Park only dreamed of being. With new attractions released every few years and attendance at full capacity, things seem to be going well. When the park owner, played by Irrfan Khan, decides it needs a scarier attraction to garner more sponsors, the world’s first gynetic hybrid, the Indominus Rex is created. In order to ensure the hybrid is ready for viewing, the park calls in former Navy operator turned Raptor whisper, Owen (Chris Pratt).
As usual, the hybrid is far too intelligent to be kept in containment and escapes. Pratt and co. set out to put a stop to the beast and come to find an even bigger threat resides within one of their own.

As far as raw entertainment goes the film is fun and enjoyable. The action sequences are up to par with the film’s predecessors and the Easter eggs from the original Jurassic Park will leave theater goers with a smile on their face.
However, the story might as well be as extinct as the dinosaurs.

The characters were underdeveloped, the dialogue border-lined on cheesy, there was a lack of suspense, and the story itself was as extinct as the dinosaurs. The actors did well with what they had to work with, Chris Pratt especially, but none of the characters were developed enough to establish any form of connection or interest.

Jurassic World, at its base, is a fun film and a decent addition to the dinosaur franchise. If you go in with an open mind and no expectations your time at the theater won’t be wasted. Piece of advice, if you plan to see this film in theaters don’t pay for the 3D, but do pay for the IMAX.
