BeautifulBallad Reviews Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 hit, The Maze Runner. Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee and Kaya Scodelario return as the “Gladers” for the sequel, based off the book series by James Dashner. Screenwriter, T.S. Nowlin, made several changes to the movie adaptation and left out quite a bit from the book.
With that said, the flick is inconsistent. The actions scenes were fantastic and the one liners were pretty good, but the movie lacked plot.
In the film, WCKD is still out to get the Gladers and the only apparently safe place from WCKD is with the resistance, the Right Arm. Thus, they venture out into the scorch to find the Right Arm and on the way uncover WCKD’s ultimate plan. There is no real development in the film and several questions are left unanswered. The Scorch Trials relies heavily on its actions sequences, although it does nicely set up the next movie, the film felt disjointed.
The cast did great with what they had to work with. The chemistry between the guys is even better than the first movie and Giancarlo Eposito and Rosa Salazar are nice additions. Rosa’s character, Brenda fits in well, something that Kaya’s character, Theresa, was never able to do.
If you plan on seeing the movie in the theater, make sure to watch the first movie before, so you have an idea what is going on. I would suggest seeing the movie in theaters, but it is not one you need to rush out and see. If you’re merely interestedwait until it hits DVD/On Demand.
