BeautifulBallad Reviews Warner Bros. Black Mass
Warner Bros. Black Mass tells the true story of Boston native Jimmy “Whitey” Bulger, as he goes from small town crime boss in South Boston, also known as “Southie”, to big time crime lord, with the help of the FBI. The film is harsh, graphic, and sometimes downright repulsive, but does a great job of bringing “Whitey” Bulger to life.
Johnny Depp is one of the key reasons this film is so captivating. His portrayal of Whitey is fantastic, chill-worthy, and something that will definitely be talked about this coming award season. He brought “Whitey” to life and, unlike more recent roles, was able to make the audience forget that it was him under all the makeup.
The film is very reminiscent of Marin Scorsese’s The Departed. Both films take place in Boston, focus on the mob in South Boston and feature quite a few harsh scenes. Be warned, this is not a film for children to see, at least not in theaters. It is extremely graphic and does contain a fair amount of cursing. Try and get a babysitter if you plan to see the film.
The flick is good. While It has its slow parts and certain scenes that are hard to watch, it kept the audience on the edge of their seats the entire time. If you are looking for a film to see this weekend with the significant other this one is for you.
