BeautifulBallad Reviews NBC’s The Player

Tonight, September 24, NBC will be premiering its new drama pilot, The Player. The show follows Alex Kane (Philip Winchester), who is enlisted by pit boss, Mr. Johnson (Wesley Snipes) to race against the clock to stop crimes before they happen. As this is going on, players have placed bets with Mr. Johnson on whether or not they think Kane can stop the crime in time.

The show seems a little out of this world when it comes to the plot. A bunch of rich people betting on whether or not someone can stop a crime before it happens and an underground intelligence group helping Kane prevent the crime seems to be reaching a bit. However, if you can justify that this is not real life, but fiction, you will probably like the show.

The characters are intriguing and the episode will leave you with a lot of questions regarding Kane, the underground intelligence group and Mr. Johnson. One can only assume that these questions will be answered over the season, if it is picked up.

The show is action packed from start to finish, though sometimes the action gets in the way of the actual story. There is little plot told in the episode, thus leaving the audiences with quite a few questions. At the end of the day, if car chases, a man running through Las Vegas in his underwear, and high stakes are your thing you will get a kick out of the show.
