BeautifulBallad Reviews CBS’ Supergirl

CBS’ latest show, Supergirl, is a fun, refreshing addition to the TV superhero lineup. This brand new tale tells the story of Kara, a Kryptonian who takes up the mantle of Supergirl after becoming tired of hiding her powers.

In the pilot alone, the audience learns the Kara’s orgins, details about her adoptive family, and the villain for the season. The secondary characters, Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), and Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) are all nicely introduced and their relationships are established with Kara in a way that will allow for further development in the future.

Melissa Benoist plays are protagonist Kara and it will be hard for fans to not fall in love with her. Her enthusiasm and playful nature brings a much needed innocence to Kara. Calista’s performance as independent and self empowered media mogul Cat Grant is the yin to Kara’s yang. Calista plays this character with such ease, you can’t help but love and hate her all at once.

Our other characters do a nice job of balancing out the story. Sparks fly in scenes that feature Jimmy and Kara or Kara and Winn, so it will be interesting to see if any romantic roads will be paved between these characters as the series progresses.

Overall, Supergirl is a fun time for all ages and all genders. The special effects and stunts were a little unbelievable at times, but if handled with care, this show has potential to be a long running show for CBS.

CBS will premiere it’s latest action drama, Supergirl, tonight, October 26, at 8:30pm.
