Review: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Reignites the Star Wars Franchise
The force has officially awakened! After 10 years, the Star Wars franchise has come alive again with a new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. J.J. Abrams has stepped into the director’s chair and continues the Star Wars legacy with a movie that will have you smiling as you leave the theater.Unlike Episodes 1-3, episode 7 will remind you why you fell in love with the franchise in the first place.
Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher return as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia respectively, and they are joined by three newcomers, Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn) and Oscar Issac (Poe). The three newcomers easily fall in with the original Star Wars crew, almost as if they were in the first three movies. The chemistry between the three new leads is spot on and will leave you wanting more.
Han and Chewbacca, once again, steal the movie. The lines between the two will have you laughing out loud and let’s be real, there is no bromance like Han and Chewie’s bromance. This definitely leads one to wonder why Harrison Ford never got a solo Han Solo movie. While they do have one in the works now, the person playing Han will not be Ford and no one will be able to play that character like Ford.
From the action scenes to the more dramatic scenes there is no point where the movie seems too slow or gets distracted from the plotline. The only negative was Adam Driver as Kylo Ren. I won’t go into much detail on his character, but he didn’t really
do the character justice.
If you loved the original Star Wars movie then you will love this movie. J.J. Abrams has done a
great job of bringing fans back to that galaxy far, far away and keeping them there. Now if only we did
not have to wait until 2017 for the next one!
Grade: A
PS. When you see the movie plan to see it in IMAX. It will be worth the extra money to see it on the big screen!
