Advance Preview: Freeform to Debut New Show, Recovery Road Tonight
Freeform is set to debut its new series, Recovery Road tonight, January 25. Based on the young adult book by Blake Nelson, the show stars Jessica Sula, Kyla Pratt and Sebastian De Souza. The show follows Maddie (Sula), a 17 year old who gets sent to a sobriety home after being caught with alcohol at school. Now she must face the challenge of attending school and pretending like nothing has changed, while at night begin her steps towards recovering from her addictions.
The supporting cast is the shining part of the show. The characters in the sobriety home each have their own problems and identities that will leave you wanting to learn more about them. As for Maddie, she could not compare to her supporting characters. There was nothing really likeable about the character or anything that leaves you wanting to learn more about her, except one scene towards the end of the episode that includes Pratt and Sula. Hopefully, as the show goes on Maddie will become a more likeable lead, but until then enjoy the supporting characters.
Compared to the other shows on Freeform, this show has a more refreshing feel to it. It is dramatic, but not over the top like some of their other shows. It is not outlandish, it’s relatable and it deals with topics that a lot of teenagers are going through today. You can’t help but be drawn into the story and, at the same time, wondering what did these kids go through to land up in the sobriety house.
If you are looking for a show that is a little more down to earth, yet stills has the ability to hit home than this show is for you. For all those on the edge of it they should watch it or not, take a chance on the show tonight and let us know what you think!
