REVIEW: Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin will Leave You Crying in Me Before You
Me Before You is the romantic movie audiences have been waiting for. Based on the international best-selling book by Jojo Moyes, Me Before You follows Louisa “Lou” Clark (Emilia Clarke), a chatty enthusiastic girl who takes a job caring for wheel chair bound, Will Trainor (Sam Claflin). Will used to live life on the edge, but since his accident his life has never been the same. Lou takes it upon herself to show Will there are still things in life worth living for.
Emilia is wonderful fun as the happy go-lucky Lou while Sam’s clever use of nonverbal expressions brings what could have been a lackluster Will to life. The chemistry between the two is impeccable, allowing their relationship to come to life on screen.
Rounding out the secondary cast is Matthew Lewis and his hilarious portrayal as Lou’s running obsessed boyfriend Patrick and Jena Coleman as Lou’s sister and go-to advice girl. Matthew and Jena’s roles bring more laughs to the film at several needed times.
The only negative is the film will leave you wanting more. With all the development in the early part of the film, the ending felt a little rushed. It feels as if there are questions yet to be answered at the completion of the movie.
Me Before You is the Walk to Remember of 2016. It is nothing flashy or over the top, but it will keep you entertained. Audience goers be prepared to go from a feeling of heartwarming to a heart wrenching cryfest in less than two hours. Bring tissues, you will need them.
Grade: B+
