Selena Gomez Opts To Donate Concert Proceeds To LGBT Group In North Carolina Instead Of Canceling
Selena Gomez will be performing in Charlotte, North Carolina this coming Tuesday, June 7. The young singer has opted to not cancel her Revival tour stop due to recent LGBT issues, but to instead donate her proceeds to a local LGBT Group.
For the past few months many musicians have chosen to cancel their shows to show their support against the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act (HB2) law. Selena, on the other hand, has decided to take a different approach to showing her support.
Selena spoke up about her decision stating, “I went back and forth on whether I should cancel my concert in North Carolina and ultimately I think what is right for me is to move forward with my show and donate a portion of the proceeds to Equality North Carolina and their effort to defeat this act of discrimination.
I’ve been reassured the venue I will be performing in has gender neutral bathrooms as I want everyone coming to my show to be welcomed. I feel like my generation is the most progressive one yet and believe there will be a day soon when laws like HB2 won’t even be a consideration.”
I think this is great decision by Selena.
