Freeforms Hits College Age Demographic w/ New Series, Guilt

gui

Freeform premieres their brand new series, Guilt, tonight, June 13, This is the first new show released under Freeform’s new name and Guilt is exactly the show they need to transition in to an older demographic.

Based loosely on the story of Amanda Knox, the show follows Grace (Daisy Head) an American studying
abroad in London, who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of her British roommate, Molly. Grace’s sister, Natalie (played by Emily Tremaine), a lawyer in the United States, rushes overseas to help defend her sister. However, when more information and evidence comes to light, it seems Grace may not be as innocent as she wants the world to believe.

It is Natalie who the leads of the show, though Grace’s point of view is shown. Emily Tremaine shows great promise as the protective older sister, who just wants to clear her sister’s name and take her home. Natalie faces opposition in the form of her shady step-father, James Lahus (Stewart Head) and two detectives, Sergeant Bruno (Cristian Solimeno) and Gwendolyn Hall (Naomi Ryan). Hall wants nothing more than to put Grace behind bars but Natalie may have an ally in Bruno who appears to want to help.

The writers do a nice job of setting up the series in the pilot. Relationships are created between
characters that will leave the audience wanting more and the audience will come away with very strong feelings of love or hate for these characters. Questions certainly arise that will hopefully be
answered before the season is out. Hopefully it doesn’t follow the same trajectory as Pretty Little Liars, where questions are formed and then never answered.

If Freeform was looking for a more mature show to dictate their new direction, they found it. This show is nothing like any of the shows currently airing on the network. Guilt has more adult content than I have seen on any of their past shows, combined. With that said, viewers under the age of 15 might not want to watch this show. This is a show definitely geared and meant for the college set.

Guilt will premiere tonight on Freeform at 9pm!
