Finding Dory Is A Whale Of A Good Time

Finding Dory is Pixar’s latest creation and the sequel to the 2003 hit Finding Nemo, and this new addition is just as cute and filled with as much beautiful animation as the first.

In the film, Dory, voiced again by Ellen DeGeneres, sets out on an adventure to find her parents. Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (Hayden Rolence) tag along to help their friend in a ride that takes the trio across the ocean and to California. Along the way, the trio encounter some familiar faces and make new friends that will help Dory reunite with her family.

The film starts off a bit rocky, the backstory for Dory explaining why she can’t find her parents and then her desire to locate them is choppy and lacks the flow that was so easy in the first film. However, as the films progresses it eventually finds its footing.

The newest characters Hank (Ed O’Neill), Destiny (Kaitlin Olson) and Bailey (Ty Burrell) bring a breath of fresh air and humor to this animated flick. O’Neill is the perfect choice for the crotchety squid Hank and the team of Olson and Burrell are wonderful as the friendly whales.

Finding Dory lacks the originality of its predecessor and has some trouble finding it’s pacing, but once it does Finding Dory is an entertaining ride.

Grade: B+

Also, Pixar debuted its latest short, Piper, which tells the story of young sandpiper who most learn to dig for food. This six minute short is a heart warming little flick that shows that not everything is as scary as it seems.
