What The Flash’s 3×01 Title “Flashpoint” Could Mean for its Third Season

Grant Gustin has announced the title of the Season 3 premiere of The Flash! The episode will be called “Flashpoint” and production on it will start in Vancouver on July 7.

The title “Flashpoint” comes from the 2011 comic book crossover story arc released by DC Comics. In the comic, Barry Allen wakes in an altered timeline and is the only one to notice the differences between this altered timeline and his own timeline. Throughout the series it is up to Barry to find a way to stop the Reverse-Flash and find his way back to his original timeline.

Now based off how Season 2 of The Flash ended, I am going to guess that this season will be based off this comic series. At the end of Season 2, Barry traveled back in time to stop the Reverse-Flash from killing his mom. The same thing was done in the comic series, which led to Barry creating the Flashpoint timeline. During the episode, I can only assume Barry will realize that when he went back in time, he not only saved his mom, but he also created the Flashpoint timeline.

Also, if this is indeed the story arc they are going with this season, than that would explain how they will be incorporating Tom Cavanagh and Wentworth Miller next season. The Reverse-Flash is the main foe in the comic arc, so this could mean that Tom will be once again playing Reverse-Flash in Season 3. In regards to Wentworth, in the comics, Captain Cold is Central City’s resident hero, which could mean that he could be the resident hero in the show next season.
