REVIEW: Adventures in Babysitting is Everything You Want From a DCOM
Disney Channel will air its 100th Disney Channel Original Movie, tonight, June 24, Adventures in Babysitting. Following in the footsteps of the previous 99, Adventures is an entertaining, wild addition to the DCOM family.
Starring Disney Channel favorites Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson, the movie is a re-imagining of the 1987 classic of the same name. The story follows Lola (Carson) and Jenny (Carpenter), two girls who couldn’t be more opposite, competing for the same photography internship. After meeting at the interview, the pair accidentally switch phones causing Lola to take a babysitting gig meant for Jenny. Lola soon realizes she may have bit off more than she can chew and it takes Jenny and the family she is babysitting, the Cooper family, to save the day. Although with every good DCOM, it just might be Jenny who is saved.
The role of Jenny is the complete opposite of Sabrina’s Girl Meets World character, Maya. Jenny is tightly wound, never one to take risks and always has to do what’s right., while Maya is a free spirit, much like Carson’s Lola. Sabrina and Sofia are delightful as their characters but it is the kids that have the most fun in the movie. Nikki Hahn (Emily Cooper), Mallory James
Mahoney (Katy Cooper), Max Gecowets (Trey Anderson), Jet Jurgensmeyer (Bobby Anderson), and Madison Horcher (AJ Anderson) were wonderful casting selections. The group worked well together and had amazing chemistry with Sabrina and Sofia.
Fans will not be let down with this new addition to the DCOM family. It has all the things that make a DCOM so wonderful, action, adventure, a little romance and even a musical number (this time in the form of a rap battle). The film does run a little long and has its slow moments, but most will enjoy it start to finish.
