The Three Most Intriguing Things We Learned About Ilvermorny School Of Witchcraft & Wizardry
Today, June 28, author J.K. Rowling revealed some fun new details about the American Wizarding School, Ilvermorny. From its creation to its sorting process, Rowling left no stone unturned when it came to describing the school, which will be featured in the upcoming film Fantastic Beast And Where To Find Them. Below we revealed some of the details we found most interesting.
The first detail we must touch upon is the founding family of Ilvermorny. What we found most intriguing was the fact that the founding family was not an all magical family. It was a mix between pure blood, Isolt, who we learn is an ancestor of Voldemort’s grandfather, does Gaunt ring any bells, a muggle named James, and their two adopted sons. Isolt’s love for magic and James’ love for her is what the school was based on of unlike Hogwarts which began over a kinship of magic. This founding family also proves that not every descendant from Salazaar Slytherin believed in the pure blood way.
The next thing we found interesting was the sorting process. Instead of a hat choosing your house, the magical creatures from each house get the choice. If more than one creature chooses a student, than the student gets to pick which house they belong in, which reminded me a lot of the blind rounds from The Voice. For Hogwarts, the sorting hat did say to Harry that at the end of the day he took the student’s choice into consideration when he was unsure between houses, but it nice to see this on full display at Ilvermorny.
The final thing we found most intriguing was the mention of Seraphina Picquery. In the story, we are told that she was the only female of her generation to be chosen by all four houses. However, what is most interesting is the fact that this girl would go on to become the President of the Magical Congress of the United States in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. We now know that this woman will be appearing in the upcoming movie, but we get a feeling she might not be good.
