ADVANCE PREVIEW: Lethal Weapon May Have What It Takes
When FOX announced they would be doing a TV reboot of the 1987 movie, Lethal Weapon many people were skeptical. Networks in the past have tried to turn movies into TV shows and they have not always been successful. However, this show has the chance to be successful.
Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans take on the roles of Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh and their chemistry is off the charts. The pair starts the episode after just becoming partners. Riggs has left Texas for Los Angeles and is going through some pretty emotional things, while Riggs is just coming back to work with the LAPD after suffering a heart attack.
Crawford and Wayans are no Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, but they don’t need to be either. This duo does a great job of bringing these two completely different characters to life.
The episode is filled with a lot of comedy and a lot of action. If the show can keep this up for every episode this season, while still maintaining a plot line, then they will get the renewal they are looking for. If the show turns into another boring, lackluster cop procedural, and loses the comedy and action, it will definitely lose its viewership.
Honestly, give it a shot. If you are expecting the movie, you will be disappointed. If you go in with an open mind, compared to other movie turned TV adaptions, then you may find yourself wanting to tune in for more.
