We had the chance to chat with Let Is Shine actress and singer Coco Jones about her brand new single “Miss Me When I’m Gone”. The single was released this past Friday, September 16.

Coco opened up on everything from growing up in Tennessee to her Fall must haves. You can check out our full interview with her below and if you haven’t had the chance to check out her new single, check it out under the jump.

BB: You grew up in Tennessee, how did growing up in such a musical state help you get to where you are today?

CJ: Tennessee gave me a lot of opportunities and and lot of support that I’m very appreciative of. I did my first talent show there-Mount Juliet star; that’s where I met my first producer, so It kind of started a lot of things for me to be honest.

BB: Your parents are very accomplished; do you feel a sense of pressure to compete with their success?

CJ: Not at all, my parents are the real MVP! They would still love me if I wanted to become a farmer. The one person I feel a sense of pressure to compete with is myself, I always want to better myself and see my career progress and that can put a lot of pressure on things. I never let it get to me though, because I know it’s all God’s plan anyway so why stress it!

BB: Your new single “Miss Me When I’m Gone” has a really powerful message behind it. What made you decide to choose this song as your next single?

CJ: I wanted to choose “Miss Me When I’m Gone” to release because I feel like it’s a song that needs to be heard right now, with everything going on in the world-the song kind of has a healing quality to it. Also I wanted to step out of my comfort zone, I always do the happy, fun, dancing songs but this is new for me and it was a risk that I felt needed to be taken.

BB: How do you go about picking your singles and the songs you opt to cover on your Youtube page?

CJ: On my YouTube channel (@CocoJonessings), I kind of just go with what I’m feeling at the moment. That can range from an old Justin Bieber song, to a Frank Ocean song. It’s just what’s been stuck in my head for a while honestly.

BB: You were in Disney Channel’s hit DCOM, Let It Shine, do you have any interest in doing more movie musicals or even maybe a Broadway musical?

CJ: I definitely love combining acting and music, I think it’s such a fun experience and would love to do more of it! I did Broadway for a couple of months with the show A Bronx Tale, and it was a super fun experience. Honestly I just go where life takes me; if that’s what’s next for me, then that’s what’s next for me only time will tell though [laughing]!

BB: Can you share any plans for an EP or full length album and when fans can expect it?

CJ: Honestly there’s nothing set in stone for an album right now, and I wish that wasn’t the answer! A lot of things have to fall in the right place for an album to be released, you get one shot, you know! So bear with me Coco Locos! Sooner rather than later!

BB: Now that Fall is right around the corner, what are your Fall must haves?

CJ: I’m obsessed with warm drinks, so I’m going to be drowning in cappuccinos. I love big sweaters and leggings, it’s like the perfect outfit. And huge scarves are a favorite! They protect your throat when you have to sing, and they make a DIY pillow [laughing]!

BB: What are you must watch Fall TV shows?

CJ: Honestly, I’m just watching Grey’s Anatomy right now, it was the biggest mistake of my life because I’m obsessed!! But as soon as I finish that I will crawl out of my shell, promise!

BB: Is there anything else you would like to share that you feel your fans should know about?

CJ: I’d like my fans to know that I’m super appreciative of all their continued support, I know that you guys want so much from me and best believe I’m giving it everything I’ve got. Just know that I love you all and I appreciate y’all loving me back!
