REVIEW: Moana is Grand Adventure Fit for the Whole Family

Stunning animation, magnificent music and an amazing adventure make Disney’s new animated movie, Moana fun for the whole family. Featuring the voices of Auli’I Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, Moana follows a young woman (Auli’i) as she set outs on the open sea to find the demigod Maui (Johnson) and return the Heart of Te Fiti in hopes of saving her island.

Although the story has moments reminiscent of The Lion King and Mulan, Moana tells a story all its own. In a nice change from previous Disney films, especially ones with female leads, there is no love story featured in this movie. It’s an empowering tale that focuses on a young woman who wants to save her island. Moana is not content to sit on the sidelines after teaming up with Maui; she aims to be the master of her own fate and destiny.

Auli’I and Dwayne were the perfect choices to voice Moana and Maui. They brought richness and joy to their characters and their interactions with each other showcased their fondness for one another. They each have their own songs in the movie “How Far I’ll Go” (Moana) and “You’re Welcome” (Maui), which will have you immediately downloading them after the movie is over.

Grandma Tala is the “Village Crazy Lady” and one of the best parts of the movie. She provided a lot of laughs and acted as the push Moana needed when things got tough and doubt set in.

The music in this movie is one of the best parts. The songs are catchy and fit the island theme. They help drive the story and our characters as they tackle to quest confronting them.

For all those looking for a movie to see over the Thanksgiving holiday this movie is for you. No matter the age, it
will be fun for everyone!
