REVIEW: The Lego Batman Movie is Fun for the Whole Family
The Lego Batman Movie may just be the Batman movie we have been waiting for! Since The Dark Knight Rises hit in 2012, DC Entertainment has been trying to bring the universe back to life and they have pulled it off with this movie.
The Lego Batman Movie, a spin-off of The Lego Movie, follows Batman as he attempts to stop The Joker from destroying Gotham city. Along the way, Batman has to learn to work with his new team members, including Robin, if he has any hope in stopping The Joker.
The nice thing about this movie, besides the stunning animation, is it doesn’t take the idea of Batman too seriously. Over the years, Batman has been portrayed as a loner, a man who hides his feelings to protect those around him. In this movie, they make fun of this concept. They have Batman himself, voiced by Will Arnett, poking fun at how Batman works alone and how Batman is the only one with great ideas. There is more growth from this version of Batman than in some of the recent movies released, it makes for one great ride.
The animation is stunning. The movie opens with an action scene featuring Batman stopping some of his biggest villains and it’s one of the better scenes in the movie, if only for the animation. Remember, this is an animated film, geared towards children. Trying to compare this to The Lego Movie will leave you disappointed. The Lego Movie was an original idea that allowed for more freedom, while this
movie is based off an established, well-loved character, there isn’t a lot of room for wild creativity.
This movie is perfect for kids of all ages. While it is jam-packed with characters, which at times can be overwhelming, and some of the dialogues falls flat, overall the movie is a treat. Little kids will love the animation and adults will enjoy the humor. If you are looking for something to see this weekend, I suggest going to see this.
