BB Exclusive: Niki Koss Chats her New Show, Famous in Love w/ BB

Every show needs a “mean girl” and with Freeform’s Famous in Love they have found their “mean girl”, Alexis Glenn, in the wonderful Niki Koss. We had the amazing chance to chat with Niki about the show before its series premiere.

In our interview with Niki, we talked the show, her character, Alexis, what drew her to the role, the role she originally auditioned for and so much more. Highlights can be found below.

On the show, Famous in Love:Famous in Love is about Young Hollywood. We are going to give you a peek inside the parts of Hollywood that we don’t get to see very often. The good, the bad, all of it.”

On her character, Alexis: “I play Alexis Glen, who is a movie star and is a little bit of a competition for Bella’s [Thorne] character in the beginning.

On what drew her to the role of Alexis: “I was originally drawn to the show in general. I read the script and I actually originally auditioned for a different character and I remember reading the script and thinking whoever gets to play this Alexis girl is the luckiest actress ever. It looks like such a fun part and I just had an immediate connection to it. And I was kind of bummed I wasn’t going in for it and then I got called back for Alexis and after that I was like, ‘I have to play this part’.

On who she originally auditioned for: “I actually wanted to read for Cassandra, which is Georgie’s [Flores] part”

On playing Alexis: “She really is an amazing character because she grew up in Hollywood, so loyalty is so important to her. And the people that she feels loyalty to she’ll do anything for. I think her claws come out out of love a lot of the times.

You will find the rest of our interview with her under the jump. Famous in Love will premiere tonight, April 18 on Freeform and next week make sure to keep an eye out for Part 2 of our interview with Niki!

If you can’t tune into the premiere via your TV, the entire first season is available to binge digitally starting today!!

On if she read the books before auditioning: “I believe I read it in between the callbacks. I hadn’t read the books before I got the audition and then I think after I got the part I read the second book.”

On watching Pretty Little Liars before working with I. Marlene King: “I was a big Pretty Little Liars fan when it first came out and when I was in high school. I would be so excited every week when the episode would come out and then school kind of had its way with me and I stopped watching it for a little while. But when I heard Marlene’s name I was like, ‘Ah, well this is going to be gold'”.

On releasing the show in its entirety on premiere day: “Well, selfishly I am really happy it’s going to be released all at once because I can’t wait to binge it. I remember every week when the scripts would come out, it was just agony to find out what was going to happen next week, so it is nice we are not putting the fans through that.”

On shows she’s bingeing right now: “I’m just finishing bingeing Shameless, which I was very addicted to. It’s funny because I started bingeing it when we were shooting actually and I didn’t realize that they shoot right across from our stage. So after a couple of weeks of filming, I would kind of meander on over to their stages and just hang out and see if one of them would come out.”

On filming on the Warner Bros. lot: “It’s actually really cool because most of the sets that you’ll see on the show or when they are shooting the movie within the show are our sets like the make-up room is our make-up room. So it’s very authentic in that way, which is really cool to watch. But it got a little confusing a lot of the time on set because our parking spots for example right outside the stages that are our characters names in the show and are supposed to be our parking spots for the movie. They were our parking spots in real life, but also part of the set.”

On finding it difficult to separate real life from fantasy while on set: “Totally, we would walk on set and never know which video village was ours and which one was the fake one.”

On what the chemistry is like offset: “We have great chemistry off set. I think we were really blessed to have a cast of people who are so different, but are so grateful to be working on this show and equally passionate to and excited about it. We love each other, we’re always trying to hang out with each other outside of work and we jump at any chance to see each other.”

On why fans should watch Famous in Love: “It’s something really special that I don’t think we have really seen before in this way. And not only does it exploit the glamour, amazing glorified glitzy side of this business. It really just shows you pieces of it that don’t get exposed very often, so it’s really interesting to watch because of that. Also, there are too many hot guys not to watch.”
