Emma Watson Chats With Jessica Chastain For Interview Magazine
Emma Watson is on the cover of the May issue of Interview magazine. Emma is on the cover to promote her new film The Circle. Highlights from her interview with Jessica Chastain are below.
On her relationship with fashion and photoshoots: “Fashion is something that I love, and I find it to be so expressive and creative, and it’s obviously a way into my characters, so I’m always deeply engaged with it. What I find difficult about photo shoots is the line between playing a character—you’re being asked by the photographer to take on a role like you would in a movie—and being a fancier version of yourself. It’s about finding that line between being spontaneous and open to direction, but also trying to explain to photographers that the “me” is often taken out of context because it has all of this other stuff attached to it.”
On acting being nothing but lying: “Acting is telling the truth under imaginary circumstances. I cannot think of a worse way to describe acting. Also, I’m the worst liar ever. I remember trying to get into clubs when I was just about to turn 18. They’d ask my age—and my friends were already in the door, it was not even a big deal—and I was like, “I can’t do it.” It’s terrible. They were like, ‘You’re an actress, what’s wrong with you? Get it together, woman!'”
On being called a role model: “When people call me a role model it puts the fear of god into me, because I feel like I’m destined to fail.”
