EXCLUSIVE: Isaiah Mustafa Chats the 2B Premiere of Shadowhunters w/ BB
The 2B premiere of Shadowhunters is set to air tonight, June 5, on Freeform and we have the lovely opportunity to chat with Isaiah Mustafa (Luke) about the highly anticipated episode.
In out chat with Isaiah, we talked where the episode picks up after the season 2 finale, his new partner, Luke relationship with Clary and his pack, and so much more.
On where we the Shadowhunters in the 2B premiere:
“Do you remember when you used to watch Scooby Doo? It’s just like that. You find them right in the midst of a mystery. There’s a greater demon on the loose and the kids are looking out and seeing what’s going on. He (the greater demon) would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for those meddling kids!”
On where we find Luke at the beginning of the episode:
“Luke goes to the crime scene (caused by the greater demon) and that’s where you meet his new partner. Who proves to be a little bit of a thorn in his side. So, that is where you kind of pick up this season.”
You can find the rest of our interview with him under the jump. The premiere will take place at 8pm tonight, so make sure to tune in. And, make sure to check the site tomorrow for the rest of our interview with Isaiah!
On his new partner and how she will affect his relationships in The Shadowhunters world:
“That is a cool aspect. She has no idea what’s going on in the Shadow world and Luke is doing his best to keep it all secret. She is going to pop in in different episodes and keep pestering him and asking him different questions and doing different things to find it what’s really going on. I’m not sure how it turns out in the finale, but I can tell you this much, she may get a little more information then she’s ready for or she may not.”
On relationship with Maia and his pack in the premiere:
“You won’t see too much of that conflict to start out with. There are hints of it, but I think that really kicks in three to four episodes in. You start to see more downworlder talk and more downworlders getting together and talking about the current state of affairs in the Shadow world. And, what’s going between the downworlders vs. the Shadowhunters.
I think in the beginning there is a little bit of talk, but it’s not like “What are we going to do?”, it’s more reacquainting the fans with, last time this is what was going on and the characters taking it from there.”
On his relationship with Clary this second half of the season:
“Honestly, I think their relationship is at a point where it’s self-sustaining. They don’t need to develop this strong bond; the bond is there. She knows he is there when she needs him and he trusts her enough because, first and foremost, she is Jocelyn’s child. He is going to let her figure out the world on her own because that is probably the best way to let her grow up. Instead of telling her everything and jumping in and saying, “You need to do this”, he is just going to let her find it out her own. I think that is probably the best way to raise teenagers, that’s my method.”
On what fans can expect this second half of the season:
“They can expect a lot of serious cases. A lot of different bonds, friendships, and allegiances being developed. They can expect a lot of surprises.”
