ADVANCE PREVIEW: The Bold Type Should Be Your New Tuesday Night Obsession

The Bold Type is the real life tale of Joanna Coles, the first person ever to be Chief Content Officer for Hearst Magazines. The new show follows three women, Jane, Sutton, and Kat, employees for Scarlet, a women’s magazine, and their feats and frustrations as they live, love, and work in New York City.

The Bold Type is a refreshing drama focused on the friendship between these three ladies and their support for one another in a turbulent business. The show lacks the over the top dramatics of previous Freeform shows (see Pretty Little Liars) and is more true to life. It is Sex and the City for a younger generation, and though that claim has been made before, this is the best effort thus far to take that title.

Kat Stevens, Aisha Dee, and Meghann Fahy are great as the three females leads. Their chemistry is explosive, which makes it easy to see why their characters are so close. Their portrayals will make you feel like one of the group, rather than an outsider tuning in every week. It’ll be a treat to see how their characters make it through the season.

This show should be the new Tuesday night obsession. Its two hour premiere airs tonight, July 11, so make sure to tune in and let us know what you think.
