Camila Mendes Chats About Dark Veronica, K.J. Apa, & Riverdale In New Interview
Camila Mendes recently opened up about the new season of Riverdale. Camila will be reprising her role as Veronica Lodge during the show’s second season. Highlights are below.
On the potential of a Dark Veronica this season: “I think you might see a little bit more of a Dark Veronica. Obviously, people expect darkness from Veronica a little bit more than they expect a Dark Betty, which is why the Dark Betty is so great. I don’t want to spoil anything, but Veronica kind of takes matters into her own hands, and she’s a little bit more involved in the mystery this season. You’re going to see her fearlessness be confronted with danger.”
On working with K.J. Apa: “K.J. and I have a pretty fun relationship on set. It’s very collaborative. We’re always kind of asking each other between scenes, like, ‘Should I do it like this,’ or, ‘What if you do this, and that makes me do that?’ We just play and try to find moments to harness. It’s very loose. We try not to overthink it too much. I think the dynamic is just there. We kind of understand the Archie/Ronnie relationship at this point.”
On getting involved with Represent: “Represent reached out to me and asked if I wanted to design a shirt with them. They always pair up with a charity, and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to use my platform and reach the audience that I have, which seems to be predominantly young women, especially in their teens. Girl-against-girl bullying seemed to be the most relevant to the people that I have access to. It’s also perfect, because Veronica has that storyline of being a bully in her past, and regretting all of her actions. That, paired with the fact that she and Betty have such a strong, supportive relationship, it just seems like the perfect campaign to tie in with the T-shirt.”
