BeautifulBallad Attends Special Screening and Q&A for Netflix’s Mudbound

This past Thursday, November 30, BeautifulBallad had the amazing oppurtunity to attend a special screening and Q&A session with the cast and director of Netflix’s new film, Mudbound. Director Dee Rees, Jason Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund and Rob Morgan were all on hand at the National Museum of African-American History and Culture to talk about their hit film.

For those who have yet to see the film, it is a moving story following “two Mississippi families – one black, one white – as they confront the brutal realities of prejudice, farming and friendship in a divided World War II era.”

This film will make you feel a lot of emotions and will have you wanting to scream at the screen during certain parts (mainly during any scene featuring Jonathan Banks character, Pappy McAllen), but overall it is a riviting story. Mudbound can feel a little long at certain points, but if you are looking to watch a film that will have you biting you nails by the end of it, this is for you.

After the film, the cast and Director Dee Rees hit the stage and answered questions regarding the film. The cast opened up about how their own personal experiences helped shaped their performances in the film, while Rees revealed that she used her grandmother, Earnestine Smith’s journal to help shape the story.

The cast and Rees also talked the relationship between Garrett’s character, Jamie and Jason’s character, Ronsel in the film and what it was like working with a prodominately female crew.

This was such an amazing exeperience! We highly reccomend giving Mudbound a watch if you have a Netflix subscription. You won’t be dissapointed.
