BB Exclusive: Newcomer Sophie Beem Talks her Fun New Single, “Glow” & More w/ BB

Newcomer to the music scene, Sophie Beem just dropped her brand new single, “Glow”. Discovered by Beyonce, Sophie released her very first EP in 2016 and her songs were featured in Bad Moms, HBO’s Insecure, and BET’s Being Mary Jane.

We had the amazing opportunity to sit down and chat with Sophie about her brand new single, “Glow”, her work with Humanitarian aid organization World Vision, and so much more. You can check out our interview below.

Tell us a little about your new single “Glow”?
“‘Glow’ is a song I wrote about always being who you are truly meant to be and not letting anybody else get in the way of that. It is about people going out and dreaming big and letting their inner colors shine and glow. Glow is a feel-good song that has helped me through my struggles of bullying and self-doubt.”

The song was apparently influenced by your trip to Zambia, what about that trip inspired the song?
“I got to travel to Lusaka, Zambia in Africa. World Vision and Kids Share Workshops sponsored my trip to perform for the kids there. I brought my song Glow with me to inspire the kids. I wrote the song in Nashville when I was fourteen. Hearing the kids singing along and dancing to Glow really brought the song to life. My trip to Zambia inspired the amazing music video in which all the kids were involved.”

What would you say your song writing process is like?
“It really depends on what I am feeling that day. I always have concepts in my phone and melody ideas that I bring into a session. I love having another songwriter and producer in the room to write. It is so fun to collaborate and create something so amazing.”

What are some of your goals as a musician?
“I think I have many goals as a musician. One would be to sell out a stadium one day. Another would be to have my song on the Billboard Top 100 charts. Another would be to headline my own tour someday. I would love to hear my songs being played on the radio as well.”

Do you have any dream collaborations?
“I would love to write a song with Sia. She is one of the most influential songwriters in my life. I also would love to collaborate with Sean Paul. I love his Reggaeton influence and his melodies are so catchy.”

Who are your music icons?
“My music icons are, of course, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. I love how Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna incorporate dancing in their stage performance. I also like how Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus can play the guitar or piano while they sing a song. All these women are such hard workers and it inspires me to be better every day.”

What is your favorite song on the radio now? Why?
That is a tough one. I love “Havana” by Camia Cabello right now. It is such a catchy feel-good song. I love the sass of the song too and how it has a Spanish influence.

If you could have written any song ever, what would it be?
“If I could have written any song, it would have to be Diamonds by Rihanna and written by Sia.”

Can you tell us a little about your role as Youth Ambassador for World Vision?
“My role as Youth Ambassador is to meet with the kids whenever I can to sing for them and help out in their community. I also sponsor a child named Lweendo. He is 2 years old. I cannot wait to watch him grow and visit him in Zambia soon!”

How did you first get involved in World Vision?
“I have been in talks with them for a few years. We were just waiting for the right time to see the kids and have me perform. I first got involved with them through a family friend, who runs Kids Share Workshops, an amazing organization who helps kids dream through art. She brought me on as well as a World Vision rep.”

Do you have any more trips planned with World Vision?
“Not yet! But, hopefully soon!”

What can your fans expect from you for the rest of the year and in 2018?
“Get ready for lots of new music that I have been working on with the legendary producer RedOne. More live shows, music videos, other performances and much more.”
