Shailene Woodley & Lauren Jauregui Attend The Reform LA Fundraising Event

Thankyou to the incredible @janefonda for inviting us into your home for a fundraising event for @reformlajails . Meeting @osopepatrisse and hearing her speak on the urgency of reform in LA county jails was truly moving, informative and heartbreaking to say the least. Thank you @kendrick38 for inviting me to share space with so many moving and empowering individuals. I heard three testimonies today on the brutality that incarcerated individuals face at the hands of police departments that are never held accountable for their actions. Two parents speaking of the brutal murder of their 22 and 24 year old children and one woman (Jada) speaking on her own personal lack of medical attention during her incarceration that has led to kidney issues. These are just three horror stories of the hundreds of thousands of individuals affected by the prison industrial complex. The LA county system is the largest in the world, with a whopping $3BILLION of taxpayer money being held aside for the future of private and state prisons. We need to stop the maltreatment and wrongful incarceration of poorer communities and come together as a voice of resistance and power. Shailene Woodley and Lauren Jauregui hung out at Jane Fonda’s home in Los Angeles this evening, May 20. The two young stars were on hand to attend a fundraising event for Reform LA Jails.

During the event, the stars listened as Patrisse Cullors-Brignac spoke about the need to change LA county jails. You can check out more about the cause here.
