REVIEW: Incredibles 2 is Well Worth the 14 Year Wait
14 years ago Pixar introduced the world to The Incredibles, a family of superheroes forced to hide their powers and attempt to live a normal life. Trouble ensued when Mr. Incredible, voiced by Craig T. Nelson, accepts an assignment that will change their lives forever. Incredibles was an immediate hit with fans begging for a follow up and the wait is finally over! After 14 long years, and several other Pixar sequel, prequel, and three-quels, Incredibles 2 bounds into theaters this weekend and is well worth the wait.
Incredibles 2 picks up immediately after the first with Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) and their children Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack taking on the Underminer. Family friend, and fellow Super Frozone, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, joins in to stop Underminer’s plan.Events quickly go awry and what once seemed like a world ready for Supers to come back in to the light soon sees the Incredible/Parr family forced back into a life of anonymity.
Enter Winston Deavor, CEO of telecommunications company, DevTech and his sister, Evelyn. Winston aims to make Superheros legal again and enlists the help of Elastigirl, Frozone, and Mr. Incredible to make that happen. His plan is to make Elastigirl the poster child for Superheros who can help and not harm. Elastigirl jets off to prove why the world needs supers and Mr. Incredible assumes the familial duties. Bob/Mr. Incredible assures his wife he can handle the family but trying to survive a teenage daughter, Dash’s new math, and Jack-Jack’s emerging powers may result in being more challenging than he can bare.
Like the first film, Incredibles 2 is filled with laugh out loud moments and witty dialogue. The plot may be a bit predictable, but the story retains a unique and new feel. The music once again stands out with the score adding depth and emotion to many scenes. There is enough screen time to go around with no beloved character being overlooked or put to the side. Director, and writer, Brad Bird found a way to tell a new story about the Parr family without feeling like you were watching the first film all over again.
Incredibles 2 is the perfect film for every age. To those who have been waiting 14 years for this film, you won’t be disappointed.
