REVIEW: The Holiday Calendar is a Good Way to Kick Off Your Holiday Season
The Holiday season is here and Netflix is getting its subscribers ready with the release of the first of three holiday movies, The Holiday Calendar. Set to be released tomorrow, November 2, The Holiday Calendar is the tale of struggling photographer Andy, played by Kat Graham, who receives a magical advent calendar from her grandfather once owned by her grandmother. The calendar may just house some clues to Andy’s future and it certainly provides for some classic holiday missteps along the way.
Holiday films are supposed to get the audience into the holiday spirit and The Holiday Calendar does just that. From the second the movie opens, you know you are wrapped up in the spirit of the Holiday. Though the story line is predictable, the cast make it a fun movie to watch.
Kat Graham is great in the role of Andy, but it is her costar Quincy Brown, as Andy’s best friend, Josh, that really shines. He did such a great job playing the lovable best friend who may be harboring some romantic feelings of his own. The two have some nice chemistry together and its a pleasantly slow simmer watching it build. They are joined by Ron Cephas Jones as Andy’s supportive grandfather and Ethan Peck as Andy’s apparent dream man. Ron Cephas Jones and Kat Graham have a charming chemistry as grandfather and granddaughter. Ethan Peck does well as the slightly smarmy but looks amazing on paper love interest.
For those who are ready for the Holiday season, I suggest giving this movie a watch this weekend. For those opting to wait, I suggest watching this movie while you are decorating the house or watching it when the weather decides it wants to keep you indoors.
