REVIEW: Ralph Breaks the Internet is a Smashing Hit
Wreck-It Ralph smashed into theaters six years ago and surprised theater goers with its fun plot and amazing characters. Disney Animation is back at it again with the sequel to their 2012 hit, Ralph Breaks the Internet. Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) return for the new movie, which finds Ralph and Vanellope heading to the internet to save Vanellope’s game, Sugar Rush. On their adventure, the two meet an array of characters, including a number of our favorite Disney Princesses and a race driver named Shank (voiced by Gal Gadot), who introduces Vanellope into a world she never expected.
Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer) and Sergeant Calhoun (Jane Lynch) return but their time is brief. Ralph Breaks the Internet deals almost entirely in the world of the Internet and focuses mainly on the friendship between Ralph and Vanellope. Their friendships is confronted with new obstacles thrown (or driven) their way and the two must figure out how their new worlds look once the Internet is added in to the mix.
The addition of the Internet introduces a number of new characters as well as some familiar ones from other Disney entities. Gal Gadot voices Shank, a driver in the Internet game, Slaughter Race, who is a wonderful addition to the cast. As is Taraji P. Henson as Yesss, an algorithm that determines what’s popular on a video site. Another treat for fans is the return of our favorite Disney Princesses, many voiced by the original voice actress. The scenes featuring the Princesses are nostalgic and fantastic. They will be the scenes you will most remember when leaving the theater.
Ralph Breaks the Internet is a cross generational story that will hit home. Everyone has been through something in their lives that has affected a friendship in one way or another and Ralph Breaks the Internet tackles that issue well. The writing team found a great way to have you rooting for both Ralph and Vanellope, despite their missteps, by the end.
Ralph Breaks the Internet is a great film to take the family and friends to this Holiday season. It will have you laughing, and for some crying, but it will be altogether entertaining. For those planning on seeing it, there is a end credit scene, so make sure to stick around for it.
