REVIEW: Good Trouble is a Fun Next Step for Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez
Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez return to our TV screens tonight, January 8, with their new series, Good Trouble. A spin-off of Freeform’s hit show, The Fosters, this new show brings Callie and Mariana to Los Angeles 5 years after the series finale of The Fosters.
Both ladies are in LA to begin their post college careers, Mariana at a tech start-up and Callie clerking for a judge, but when they arrive to the city they realize that adult life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Callie and Mariana both face setbacks at their jobs and their living conditions aren’t exactly what you would call living the high life, but as Callie says in the episode, “Adams-Fosters don’t quit”.
The nice thing about this show is that it has taken a much older look at Callie and Mariana’s lives. The characters you love are still there, but their older and going through things that an older audience can relate to. However, for the young audience members, don’t let that mislead you. There is so much that goes on in this episode that everyone will be able to find something to relate to.
The other nice thing about this series is that it still touches on real life issues. The creators of The Fosters always found a way to incorporate the events and issues going on in the real world seamlessly into their shows without making the topics seem irrelevant. Good Trouble is exactly the same. All issues brought to the table are relevant and important to young adults in today’s society.
I highly suggest tuning in for the premiere tonight. The show has intriguing characters and a really nice story line. But above all else, it has two sisters just trying to make it in the real world, together.
