REVIEW: Change is Key in the Season 3 Premiere of The Bold Type
The Bold Type kicks off with a bang and doesn’t leave fans waiting to see the results of season 2’s finale! Season 3’s premiere jumps right into answering questions, including the big one: who did Jane (Katie Stevens) pick? Her decision isn’t the sole focus of the episode, in true The Bold Type fashion the show centers on each girl’s personal life and what is going on in their professional lives.
Sutton (Meghann Fahy) is dealing with the possibility of moving in with Richard (Samuel Page), Kat (Aisha Dee) is trying to handle her break-up with Adena, and Jane is working to figure out her work world now that Patrick Duchand (Peter Vack) is on board as the new Digital Branch lead at Scarlet Magazine.
The universal theme this episode is change. Each woman is working on what her next move will be now that her previous trajectory has a new curve in the road. The changes thrown at each may be minor in some way, but these changes have a way of causing a dramatic impact. The addition of Patrick as the Digital Branch Leader at Scarlet will be a fun character to see evolve over the course of this season. Fans will see the beginning of his relationships with Kat and Jane in this episode. It will be interesting to see what his relationship with Sutton will be like as the season plays out.
The Bold Type always finds something to relate to its audience each episode and the premiere is no exception. From how to get over a break-up to dealing with inappropriate behavior from a significant other’s friend or co-worker, this episode touches on real-life scenarios The Bold Type fans have experienced. The friendship between Kat, Jane and Sutton continues to be just as amazing as always. They have a friendship that reminds some fans of their own friendships. The Bold Type demonstrates just how awesome and powerful female friendship can be, notably when making that transition into a more adult world.
