Follow Camila Mendes As She Prepares For Her First Met Gala

W magazine got the amazing chance to follow Camila Mendes as she prepared for her Met Gala debut. The young actress was chosen as one of Prabal Gurung’s dates for the night and wore one of his stunning creations for the “Camp” themed event. Highlights from her day are below.

On preparing for her first Met Gala: “I imagined this weekend would be a lot more stressful than it actually has been. Everything’s been running very smoothly. I tried the dress for the first time Saturday night and it was effortless. There’s a good amount of prep and open-mindedness to try new things.”

On trying to meet Lady Gaga with her BFF, Lili Reinhart: “Lili texted to me today and she was like, “I’m gonna meet Lady Gaga today and so are you.” We’re gonna make it happen. We made a plan, I don’t know if we’re gonna follow through, but TBD.”

On the theme: “Camp to me is theatrical, or performative. It’s being more extra than you need to be. Going that extra mile to enhance a look in all aspects. The dress doesn’t just speak for itself, but the makeup and the hair are doing their job and elevating the look somehow. As an actor, the thing that drew me most to camp is the performative nature of it.”
