Spider-Man To Leave The Marvel Cinematic Universe?!
Even though Spider-Man returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame after being snapped by Thanos, it looks like he may be snapped again, and this time out of the MCU all together. Deadline is reporting that deal negotiations between Disney/Marvel and Sony for the Spider-Man franchise have failed to reach an amicable conclusion thus causing Disney involvement with the franchise to end.
According to the site, “Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige won’t produce any further Spider-Man films because of an inability by Disney and Sony Pictures to reach new terms that would have given the former a co-financing stake going forward. A dispute that has taken place over the past few months at the top of Disney and Sony has essentially nixed Feige, and the future involvement of Marvel from the Spider-Man universe.”
The site goes on to say that “…there are two more Spider-Man films in the works that are meant to have director Jon Watts and Tom Holland front and center, though Watts doesn’t have a deal for the next picture. Unless something dramatic happens, Feige won’t be the lead creative producer of those pictures.”
However, other sites report that negotiations are still ongoing. According to IGN, “…negotiations are ongoing,” while Variety reports “…that a deal might still be reached between Disney and Sony.”
This is really sad to hear if negotiations fall through, especially because a lot of fans would have loved to have seen Spider-Man teamed up with some of the newly acquired FOX characters. It will be interesting to see though, how Sony plans to move Spider-Man’s journey forward without the MCU, seeing as much of Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: Homecoming relied pretty heavily on it’s characters and events.
Thoughts?
UPDATE: Sony has take to it’s Twitter account to respond to the recent news. Their message basically confirms that Kevin Feige will no longer be acting as lead producer on the Spider-Man films. Things are about to get real interesting.
Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. (1/3)

Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue. (3/3)
