REVIEW: Limetown Comes To Life in New Facebook Watch Series
Limetown, a once vibrant town filled with people and potential, vanishes in the blink of an eye. The town is still there, but the people have vanished. All that’s left are loved ones left with questions about the disappearance. However, no one seems to have any answers. How did a town just up and vanish without a trace? One podcaster, Lia Haddock (Jessica Biel), who works for American Public Radio, is determined to find the answers revolving around the missing people of Limetown. But as she begins to unravel the mystery of Limetown, the dangers that once threatened the town may now have their sights set on her.
Based on a fictional podcast by the same name, Limetown follows Haddock as she risks her life to uncover the secrets surrounding this neuroscience research community in Tennessee. However, Haddock isn’t just investigating the town because of the mystery surrounding it. She is investigating it because her Uncle, Emile Haddock (Stanley Tucci), is one of the 300 people who went missing. What seems like the perfect place to live on paper, Limetown is filled with deadly secrets and people who may or may not want the secrets surrounding the town to be released.
Biel does a good job bringing to life podcaster, Haddock. As a fan of the podcast, it was nice to see Biel’s portrayal of the character stay pretty much in line with how her character is portrayed in the podcast. Sure, you could only hear her voice when listening to the podcast, but to see her come to life on screen did not deter how I imagined she to be. Haddock comes off as someone who will stop at nothing to find answers and Biel does well expressing that emotion. From her appearance to how she holds the character, everything is done with a purpose that ends up working in her favor.
Tucci takes on the role of Lia’s Uncle Emile and is seen only in flashbacks, but his performance will leave you wanting more. Wanting more for the sole reason that you want to discover more about how he ended up in Limetown and what really happened to him and all the people of the town.
If you were a fan of the podcast, you will be a fan of the series. The only negative for the fans will be waiting for the episodes to be released, especially if you recently listened to the podcast. For the people who have not heard the podcast, make sure to check this series out. It is being described as a horror, but I would think of it more as a psychological thriller. There is nothing overtly scary about the series, but it will definitely have you jumping out of your seat every now and then.
