Selena Gomez sat down with The Wall Street Journal to discuss her new album, RARE. The young singer plans to unveil her new project this Friday, January 10. Highlights from her interview are below.

On her recent personal struggles: “I feel like I was supposed to go through everything I’ve gone through. I had low self-esteem, and that’s something I work on continuously. But I feel so empowered because I’ve gained so much knowledge about what was going on mentally”.

On supporting Taylor Swift through her battle with Big Machine Records: “I meant what I said in my post. It’s hard to see someone you care about constantly being broken down. But, damn, that girl can get back up and do it better and do it more. ”
