BeautifulBallad’s Favorite Met Gala Looks From 2010-2019
In honor of the Met Gala, which would have taken place this evening, May 4, in New York City, BeautifulBallad has opted to take a look back into the last nine years of Met Galas and pick some of our favorite looks the events.
Let’s kick things off in 2010 when the theme was American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity. Emma Watson made her Met Gala debut this year and what a debut it was for her. The white Burberry remains one of out all time favorite looks from the young actress. Only a few short weeks before debuting her iconic pixie cut, Emma’s simple beach waves and gorgeous white gown accent the young actress wonderfully and was a breath of fresh air on the carpet.
Emma Stone’s floral Lanvin gown is our top choice for 2011. With the theme honoring the late 2011 Alexander McQueen, her gown showcased some of the best qualities McQueen was known for in his own designs. This was also one of Emma’s most on themed looks for the Met Gala.
2012’s theme was Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations and Nina Dobrev captivated us and the other Met Gala attendees in her custom floor length Donna Karan gown. Dobrev has been a staple at the Gala over the years, but this is still one of our favorite looks from her.
Lily Collins has been one of the few stars to stick with the theme year after year. However, in 2013, when the theme was “PUNK: Chaos To Couture”, Lily took the theme to the next level with her Moshino ensemble. From the leather jacket to the blue color flowing through her brunette locks, Lily looked every much a punk rocker princess.
Hailee Steinfeld takes the win for our favorite look from the 2014 Met Gala. With the theme being “Charles James: Beyond Fashion”, Hailee showed up to the event in a stunning black and white Prabal Gurung that showcased some of the best designs that James utilized in his own creations, specifically the beautifully structured bottom to the dress.
With the 2015 Met Gala themed “China: Through The Looking Glass”, Zendaya, who made her Met Gala debut that year. For the red carpet, Zendaya arrived in a stunning black and red Fausto Puglisi ensemble that stuck with the theme in a very tasteful way and would pave the way for many amazing Met Galas to come for her.
In 2016, Emma Watson’s custom Calvin Klein outfit was a different approach to the theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Created from recycled plastic bottles and organic cotton, each individual piece proved technology in the fashion industry comes in many different forms.
Lily once again makes our list, but this time for 2017’s Met Gala. Lily’s Giambattista Valli ensemble was simply stunning, but what really wowed us was the wig she opted to wear in honor of the year’s theme, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.
In 2018, Ariana Grande made her Met Gala debut and much like Zendaya in 2015, was not one to shy away from the theme. Ariana’s Vera Wang gown fit the theme, “The Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination”, to a “T”. From the Catholic paintings on the dress to the bow on her head, Ariana came ready for that read carpet.
Last year’s Met Gala brought one of our all time favorite looks, Zendaya’s Cinderella inspired gown from Tommy Hilfiger. This look is still one of the most iconic gowns to hit the carpet from our young stars, especially when her stylist, Law Roach, brought the gown to life with a wave of his wand. It truly was a magical moment.
Now it’s your turn! Let us know your favorite looks from the past Met Galas!
