Nina Dobrev Discusses How She Stays Sane During Quarantine

Nina Dobrev teamed up with Vogue magazine to chat about her quarantine life. The young actress has been practicing self-isolation from her home in Los Angeles for the past couple of week. Highlights from interview are below.

On starting meditation: “I’ve always wanted to get into meditation, but never had time for it. If I’m being honest, I never made time for it. I was allergic to the concept and didn’t understand what all the hype is about, Now, I have nothing but time, and no excuses. During quarantine, I started doing a quick 15-minute meditation every morning, first thing when I wake up. It’s changed everything, and has really helped set the tone for my day. It has been instrumental in keeping me level-headed in moments of anxiety and distress during this extremely uncertain time. It’s been a game-changer for my mental wellbeing. I get it now, and I’m happy drinking the meditation Kool-Aid.”

On taking up new hobbies: “I decided I wanted to paint my house. But instead of waiting for the world to open up again and hire someone to do my dirty work, I took on the task myself. Why not, right? There are days I regret it because it’s tedious and can feel all-consuming—it doesn’t help that I’m a perfectionist, but one day a friend told me their secret. They said, ‘Don’t think about the big picture. Choose one wall each day. Paint that wall, and that’s your task for the day. Take it in baby steps, and it won’t feel so overwhelming.’ You’ll also feel more accomplished and productive if your goal was to just finish that one wall. Before you know it you’ll be done! It’s been helping; they were right.”
