Vanessa Morgan is calling out the Riverdale writers as she shows support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Morgan took to her Twitter Sunday, May 31, to share a statement regarding her role on the CW show.
Morgan stated, “Tired of how black people are portrayed in Media, tired of us being portrayed as thugs, dangerous, or angry scary people. Tired of us also being used as sidekick non-dimensional characters to our white leads. Or only used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show.”
Morgan then confirmed in a follow-up tweet that she was indeed talking about her role on Riverdale when she responded to a fan saying, “I’m the only black series regular but also paid the least.”
Vanessa was introduced as Toni Topaz in the show’s third season and is 100% right with her statement. Especially in this last season, she was merely used as a plot piece. Kudos to Vanessa for speaking up!
