Batwoman Showrunner Talks Creating New Role for Show’s Second Season
Batwoman showrunner, Caroline Dries opened up on why her and her team decided to create a whole new character for the show’s second season. Last month, it was announced that Ruby Rose would not be returning as Kate Kane for the show’s new season.
In conversation with :egacies creator, Julie Plec, at the ATX Festival, Dries revealed that she initially was going to recast the role. Dries said, “To be honest with you, I did consider the soap opera version for a hot minute, selfishly because we had already a couple of episodes written, and transition-wise it would be seamless,”.
However, “Upon further reflection — and Greg helped me make this call, he is way smarter than me about this sort of stuff — he said, you know, we should just reboot the character in terms of reboot Batwoman as a different character, and also respect everything that Ruby put into the Kate Kane character. And I just think it helps the audience a little bit too, that we are not asking them to not address the elephant in the room.”
Casting is currently underway for the new role of Ryan Wilder. Younger than Kane, this character will be inspired by what Kane and Batwoman did for the city of Gotham.
