ADVANCE PREVIEW: The Bold Type Doesn’t Shy Away From Emotions During 4B Premiere
The Bold Type returns for its mid-season premiere tonight, June 11, and the episode is not an easy one for our leading ladies. The episode picks up 3 months after Jane’s (Katie Stevens) surgery and it has not been an smooth journey for the Scarlet writer. Jane is not only dealing with the physical changes from the surgery, but the mental ones as well. Questioning everything, Stevens is able to easily navigate through every emotion Jane is feeling throughout the episode. Even though this episode is focused on all three ladies, it really is Jane’s episode and Stevens knocks it out of the park.
Sutton (Meaghann Fahy) and Kat (Aisha Dee) are also dealing with changes now that three months have passed since Sutton got married and Kat lost her job at Scarlet. For me, this episode felt like it was just laying the groundwork for their storylines. Unlike Jane’s, which I felt got a little closure in the episode, the episode only drops little pieces for what should be even bigger storylines for the two.
Many of your favorite secondary characters take a backseat in this episode, but Alex (Matt Ward) and Jane have one of my favorite scenes in the episode. I will wait until everyone has seen the episode before sharing all my thoughts on the particular scene, but I will tell you it is a really nice scene between the pair. Other than that, the other characters merely make cameos. I was hoping we would see more from them in the premiere, but my fingers are crossed for appearances throughout the rest of the season.
The Bold Type has never shied away from any topic and this premiere is no different. The topics featured in the episode are not shocking ones, but they are emotional ones for all the characters. They setup each character’s storyline in a way that will leave you questioning what’s to come for them this season. However, even though they each have individual storylines going on one thing still remains true, the girls are always there for each other, no matter what. And, that is why I tune in every week. Heads up, this season is only 6 episodes long, so make sure to tune in because it will be over before you know it!
